Don’t like politics? Wish to see the world change? No more war? No more hungry, starving children and families? What wonderful, uplifting desires of the heart! But that seems to be the “impossible dream”, and so we go no further and we continue to live in this, our hurting and needy world. Why do we so easily give up?

There is a plan and a way of change alive and well in the world. We need only offer ourselves in complete surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ who came from God to show us the way to peace and salvation for all. However, Christ prefers to work through you and me.

To do so he first asks for entrance into our heart to clean it out, to remove all guilty stains, all dirt and filth of every desire within that is not compatible with the peace, love, joy, forgiveness and more that he offers. The Christ of creation gives to us also the power of his Holy Spirit that allows us to be and do more than we could ever imagine. (Ephesians 3:20) He promises that together—his Holy Spirit and our working together with all who are united by his love through that same Holy Spirit that we can move mountains. (Matthew 17:20) I am thinking of mountains of ill-will, jealousy, envy, hatred, guilt, laziness, selfishness, stinginess, worry, mean-spiritedness, and on and on. And let us not forget our politics also. Christ by his Spirit can transform it all bringing order out of this chaos just as he did in the very beginning. (Genesis 1)

These mountains seem ominous and lead us to discouragement, to inaction. But change in our world begins first in one place—the heart of humankind—your heart and my heart Unless we submit ourselves to Christ—each of us personally, one by one, our world will remain as it is and there will be no change.

The power to change our world—God’s world—is in our hands and begins first with us. When our hands become the hands of God. When our feet go to following in Christ’s steps. Following where he leads. When our dreams become his dreams and not our own. Want to change this messed up, screwed up, self-serving world? The answer, the solution, the change agent is Jesus and his Spirit. All that is needed is your life and my life fully given into his hands.

Pray with me:

Lord Jesus our hearts are hurting, and we are filled with shame for this fallen world. A world of your creation in which you brought order from chaos—and you called it “Good.” And your ultimate act created us—humankind—in the image of yourself, male and female. And you called us “Very Good.” Forgive us, Father, for allowing the powers of evil and of darkness to have any place in our hearts. Let your light shine in our hearts and clean us through the blood of Jesus, setting us free of our burden of sin and separation that we may fully embrace the fruit of your Spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23) Fill us with your passion to share your love so that every heart of every tribe and nation will know you and worship you as Lord and Savior. To you alone be all glory and honor, now and forever. Praying in your blessed name, Jesus. Amen.
